According to the CBRE’s 2017 Scoring Canadian Tech Talent Report, Toronto is the country’s top tech talent cluster with the Ottawa, Vancouver, Montréal, and Waterloo markets rounding out the top five. The report ranks 10 Canadian cities based on comprehensive analysis of labour conditions, cost, and quality of skilled tech workers.

Toronto placed first among the country’s top tech cities on the Canadian report and 6th on the 2017 Tech Talent Report which includes U.S. markets. With more than a quarter of Canada’s total tech workforce located in Toronto, tech talent jobs comprise 8% of all jobs in the city. Between 2011 and 2016 Toronto’s tech talent workforce grew approximately 31.8%, a marked increase compared to 4.5% job growth in non-tech industries.

While the Waterloo region may have ranked fifth overall, it has seen a staggering 65.6% increase in tech talent between 2011 and 2016 – the largest of any Canadian market. CBRE highlighted momentum from 2014 to 2016 in the visual below to demonstrate growth within top performing regions.

Investment in technology-focused educational initiatives and economic development have contributed to the Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo region’s tech growth and is one of the reasons Greybrook targeted the region for investment.
