According to a recent New York Times article, Toronto has the most active construction cranes of any other North American city. The RLB Crane Index, a report by surveying firm Rider Levett Bucknall on the number of construction cranes in major American and Canadian cities, found that the vast majority are being used to build new homes. With an estimated 97 active cranes as of July 2018, Toronto outranks the next highest city, Seattle, by more than 30 cranes, and also boasts the highest number used in home construction (85). This report highlights the significant development taking place in the city to accommodate new and existing residents to the region.
